Foreign businesses with central government support ended up investing a record 3.2 billion euros in the Dutch economy in 2014, as evidenced by the annual figures for 2014 as compiled by NFIA, the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency, compared with a much more modest 1.7 billion euros in 2013.
A total of 187 new projects comprising headquarters, production facilities, data centres, and so on were realised in 2014, resulting in a total of 6,304 jobs being newly created.
Comments Henk Kamp: “The Netherlands’ well-trained workforce, world-class digital infrastructure and improving economy have combined to make our country a magnet for investors.” As the Netherlands’ Economic Affairs Minister, Mr Kamp shares responsibility for NFIA’s operations with his Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation counterpart, Ms Lilianne Ploumen.
It was the province of North Holland (with 2,284 new jobs) which in terms of newly created jobs benefited the most in 2014 from investments by foreign companies, followed by the provinces of North Brabant and Limburg (with 1,624 and 793 jobs being added, respectively).
